SickKids Neonatal Neurocritical Care
Dedicated to the care of infants with brain injury, the SickKids Neonatal Neurocritical Care Unit’s multidisciplinary team of professionals provide exemplary clinical service for patient’s and their families, work to advance novel, cutting-edge research, and provide specialized outreach and education for trainees and staff.
Clinical Service
We provide advanced neurocritical care service to infants with:
- Preterm Brain Injury including intraventricular hemorrhage, white matter injury and post-hemorrhagic ventricular dilatation.
- Neonatal Encephalopathy
- Acute Symptomatic Seizures
- CNS Infection
- Stroke
- Neuromuscular disorders
- Brain malformations
Education
The Hospital for Sick Children Divisions of Neonatology and Neurology offer a one- or two-year Neonatal Neurology Fellowship. The position offers comprehensive training in Neonatal Neurology with emphasis on clinical evaluation, bedside monitoring tools (e.g. amplitude-integrated EEG and continuous EEG, Near Infra-red Spectroscopy), and advanced MRI techniques.

Research
Our team is using advanced magnetic resonance (MR) and neurophysiological techniques to understand the causes of brain injury and promote optimal neurodevelopment in high-risk newborns.
