SickKids Neonatal Neurodevelopmental Symposium: Neurodevelopment and Neuroplasticity!
The SickKids Neonatal Neurocritical Care Team invites you to join this virtual symposium on Thursday May 22, 2025 and Friday, May 23, 2025 for an interactive symposium focusing on Neurodevelopment and Neuroplasticity.
Analysis of incidents of delayed recognition, missed early interventions and discrepancy between family counselling and infant’s outcome highlight the importance of early identifications of developmental issues, rehabilitation strategies and available resources for infants at high risks for disabilities and their families. This symposium will enhance the understanding of challenging concepts in neurodevelopment of at-risk neonates. The intent of this symposium is to improve neurodevelopmental outcomes of critically ill newborns with brain pathology throughout Canada and the international healthcare community.
The Symposium will cover the following topics:
• Principles of neuroplasticity
• Recent advances in neuroprotective and neuromodulatory therapy
• Neuroprognostication
• Neurodevelopmental challenges and neuromodulatory strategies in:
– Language and communication
– Motor development
– Cardiac and stroke patients
